My Dear Friends,
A few mornings ago a small moth rushed past as I left the bedroom. My first response was, “Ugh. (Sigh) A bug in the house. Pretty soon I’ll have bugs everywhere!”
The ADD brain often thinks in large quantities. With years of practiced self-talk, I brought things into perspective. “It’s just one little moth. There’s enough space here for us both, I guess. It won’t live long.”
Yesterday, I felt a little lonely. I glanced at the mirror in the bathroom and saw the little moth. I smiled and said, “Hello there,” and spent several minutes looking more closely at what had become my little friend. The moth seemed to follow me through the rooms. Watching it fly around, I noticed the paintings on the wall from friends and loved ones, the Tibetan singing bowl and Mala beads from Buddhist monks, the Ute bowl containing dried flowers from my grandparents’ funerals. I walked from room to room; a doll, pillow and quilt made by my sister, gifts from my daughter, a clay figurine from my son.The list went on and on.
I thought of friends and family in Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Arizona, Virginia, Colorado. Austria, India, Australia, Missouri and Pennsylvania.
In heaven and earth and all around in the plants, animals and even bugs — We are not alone.
One of the core human needs is Love/Connection. It’s a must! There are many ways to meet needs. Look closer. Open your own heart. Listen deeply. What seems to be an enemy might turn out to be a friend.
Wishing you all love this week and always,
Cristina
My little moth friend.
What seems unfriendly at first, may contain true beauty.
